Effective 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023. The Lincoln County Fire Marshal has enacted a burning ban countywide.
This ban prohibits all open burning regardless of whether a permit was previously issued or not. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban has been lifted. This ban follows the ban that was issued Wednesday, November 8, 2023 by the North Carolina Forest Service and now will apply to all fires regardless of distance from a structure. Here are a few facts regarding this ban for citizens to keep in mind:
- This ban does not apply to cooking fires such as grills or outdoor cookers and heating fires. These type fires may only be conducted in approved and tested devices.
- Open burning includes burning leaves, branches and other plant material. In all cases, it is illegal to burn trash, lumber, tires, newspapers, plastics or other non-vegetative materials.
- Violation of this burning ban carries a minimum $100.00 fine plus court costs of $180.00
“Fines will be issued with no exception”
The burning ban will remain in effect until further notice.
