(LINCOLN COUNTY) Tributary of Mundy Creek between Sherwood Lane and Denver Industrial Park Rd., Denver, North Carolina.
The Lincoln County Health Director issued a Water Activity Advisory at 5:00 pm Tuesday, June 27, 2023 for a sewage spill in a tributary of Mundy Creek between Sherwood Lane and Denver Industrial Park Rd. in Denver, North Carolina. Approximately 800 gallons of untreated sewage may have leaked into a tributary of Mundy Creek. A Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) occurred due to the collection of grease in the sewer line. The sewer line has been cleaned and flows have returned to normal.
As a preventive measure, the Health Director is advising all residents that this area may be contaminated with fecal coliform. Residents and creek users are advised not to engage in water activity that involves having bodily contact with the water. Advisory signs will be posted.
The Killian Creek Waste Water Plant has starting taking water samples and results will be forwarded to the county Public Utilities department who will notify the Health Department and public when it is clear to resume creek activities. Until at least two consecutive samples indicate fecal coliform counts <200/ml at all sampling sites, the advisory will remain in effect. This decision is based on state guidelines per the Mooresville Regional Office of the NC Division of Environmental Quality.
