[ARCHIVED] Hiring of Lincoln County Public Affairs Officer

(Lincolnton) County Manager Davin Madden announced today that Vanessa Leon has been named as the Public Affairs Officer for Lincoln County effective May 15, 2023.


Leon comes to Lincoln County from Spectrum News where she began her passion for Journalism and Communications over 13 years ago. She has worked as a producer for News 14 in Charlotte, NC, this evolved her career in reporting and anchoring. During her tenure as a reporter for Spectrum News in Charlotte, NC she was awarded Multi-Media Reporter of the Year by the Radio Television Digital News Association in 2020 and again in 2021. She is an Emmy nominated reporter that has covered countless stories all over North Carolina including many within Lincoln County.

Leon moved from Costa Rica with her family when she was young and has lived in Lincoln County most of the time since. She graduated from Bandy’s High School and then went on graduate from UNC Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s Degree from the School of Journalism and Broadcast. Vanessa lives in Lincoln County with her husband and two girls. In her spare time Vanessa enjoys staying active, she teaches fitness classes and has been a longtime volunteer soccer coach for Lincolnton Parks and Recreation.

“Stepping into this new role as Public Affairs Officer is exciting and rewarding. I am honored to be a part of the community which I have grown up in and have chosen to raise my family in. I love Lincoln County, the people and the community which make this a great place to live and now work in. I look forward to helping tell the great things our county leaders and staff are working at to continue to grow our community.”, says Leon.

“Vanessa brings a broad degree of experience and knowledge regarding Journalism and Communications. We are excited to expand our ability to reach the community by utilizing her skills and professionalism. She offers a new component to our team and we look forward to providing Lincoln County citizens more transparency, informative outreach and enhanced emergency communication”, says Madden.

This is a new role for Lincoln County to develop and maintain working relationships with the community leaders, organizations, media and the residents of Lincoln County.
