At 10:00 a.m. this morning, an inadvertent siren activation was sounded by Charlotte Fire Communications for McGuire Nuclear Station. A silent test, which typically happens weekly per established procedures, was intended.
There was and is no existing cause for concern. There was and is no emergency and no action is required. Residents were asked not to call 911 to report the sounding of the siren. Notifications were issued as soon as possible.
Public safety agencies, as well as Mecklenburg County leadership were notified. Additionally, the McGuire Nuclear Task Force has been working with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office (CMEMO), Duke Energy and North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) to ensure all residents, businesses and supporting agencies have been notified.
